Strong partnerships lead to safer roads

USDOT Safety Alliance brings together agencies, operators, and industry leaders.

In February 2024, Transurban was named an Ally in Action in the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) Roadway Safety Strategy Alliance. Together with state DOTs, transportation agencies, private operators, and industry leaders, Alliance members have adopted the Safe System Approach as the guidelines to make roads safer.

Transurban was an early adopter of the Safe Systems Approach, taking a collaborative method to safety with our government partners around the globe. As a part of the ongoing effort to realize a future with zero roadway fatalities and serious injuries, the framework focuses on both human mistakes and human vulnerability, in addition to safer transportation infrastructure.

The objectives of the Safe Systems Approach align with Transurban’s safety culture—not only in designing, operating, and maintaining safer roads but encouraging drivers to employ defensive driving techniques to prevent crashes and promote safety.

It’s all our responsibility to keep roads safe—and watching out for potentially risky behavior when behind the wheel is a key part of USDOT’s efforts to reduce crashes and save lives. Humans make mistakes, and each of us will inevitably make one on the road. But working together proactively, we can deliver a safer trip for all road users.
