According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 48% of child safety seats in the United States are installed or used improperly. The NHTSA estimates that since 1975, child restraints have saved the lives of 11,606 children under the age of 5. In light of these critical statistics, the Transurban team took action to support parents and caregivers in our local community.

We partnered with the Stafford County Sherriff’s Office, City of Fredericksburg Police Department, Rappahannock Emergency Medical Services Council, and Branches & Vines Grassroots Farmers Market to host a free Car Seat Safety Check and Family event along the 95 Express Lanes corridor in Stafford, Virginia.  

At the event parents and caregivers met with certified child passenger safety technicians that checked to ensure the car and booster seats in their cars were properly fitted for the age and size of their children. As a value add to the event, Transurban invited several children’s vendors to participate in the event to keep the little ones busy, during the car seat inspection process.  

We strive to be good neighbors and long-term partners in the Northern Virginia region. Transurban is proud to continue sponsoring community events such as this to support the needs of the local community and our neighborhoods located within our Express Lanes corridor.
